The John HALL family of Stokes and Surry Counties, North Carolina
John and Elizabeth (Tuttle) HALL lived in Stokes Co., NC and raised a family of 5 known children. Some of their children stayed in NC while others followed migration routes into Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.
It is estimated John was born about 1758. John had probably come from Virginia. He died in 1826 near Germanton, NC. His wife, Elizabeth, was born about 1762 in Fairfax, Virginia. Their children were: Harrison (abt 1780) md. Rebecca EAST; Mary, called Polly, (3 Apr 1782) md. Francis R. SCOTT; Lewis (abt 1784) md. Mary W. SCOTT, she was a sister to Francis; Elizabeth (25 Jul 1784) md. Peter ROBERSON; Susanna (abt 1798) md. Eli D. JOHNSON.
As was common among many families of this era, siblings of one family would marry siblings of another. The SCOTT family connection is interesting as many of these descendants have been traced into Kentucky. Francis and Mary SCOTT, brother and sister who married into the John HALL family, were the children of Daniel and Ann Radford (Poindexter) SCOTT. Other children in that SCOTT family were: David (abt 1783); Robert R. (17 Aug 1790); Nancy (abt 1792); and Patsy Jane Malinda (abt 1796).
John HALL owned land in Germanton near John TUTTLE, his father-in-law. In 1803 he sold lot #10, a 1/2 acre lot in Germanton to Jacob SALMONS for 25 pounds. He also owned land on the Little Yadkin River which he gave to his children in various parcels from 1817 to 1821. This documentation exists:

A letter from L. Garrett MYERS of the Genealogical Society of Utah dated 27 Dec 1940 to Mrs. Audrey RASMUSSEN (a descendant of John HALL): "John Hall was obviously a Revolutionary or Indian War soldier for in 'North Carolina Colonial Records' we find many references to John Halls, and John Hall Jr. of various ranks under dates of 1751, 1755, 1781, 1783. A petition from Rowan County to form a separate county listed John Hall, and a petition for warrants for land in Anson (a nearby county) 30 Mar 1751, 200 acres, also included his name..." It could be that the John HALL of this article might be John HALL Jr. There are several John HALLs to sort out.
