Dear Mr. Mower,

The goal of this research session was to locate more information on Susanna Hansdotter and her mother Karin Thomasdotter and to find Karin's parents. In the last report I mentioned a possible match for Karin in the parish of Ljusnarsberg who was the daughter of Thomas Andersson and Karin Jacobsdotter of Nybygge. Research began by completing the search of the Ljusnarsberg 1730 to 1747 household examination for Karin Thomasdotter and Susanna Hansdotter that was started during the last research session. I found a Carin Thomasdotter, daughter of Tomas Parson of Naset and a Carin Thomasdotter of Norra Horten.1 The 1748 household examination shows that the Karin Thomasdotter of Naset was born in 1719, too late to be a good match for the mother of Susannah.2 This birth date was confirmed in the birth records.3 The 1722 to 1737 household examination indicates that Carin Thomasdotter of Norra Horten was the daughter of Tomas Ersson and his wife Marta.4 Tomas and Marta's son Erich is shown in the record as the husband of Kerstin Erichsdotter. Erich and Kerstin's marriage record in 1726 indicates that Erich was residing in Ronberget.5 With this information the family was identified as the Thomas and Marta Ersson of Ronberget as shown in the October 2010 report whose daughter Karin died in 1738.

I next searched the household examinations of 1748 and 1722 to 1737 in Ljusnarsberg for the family of Thomas Andersson and Karin Jacobsdotter, locating them in Vastra Nybygge in 1722 to 1737.6 Their daughter Karin was not shown in the household. I had previously located Tomas' death in 1738. During this session, I found the death of Karin Jacobsdotter in 1740 at the age of 70.7

I cannot access any estate inventories for the Nya Kopparberg district for the time period of 1738 to 1740 to search for Thomas Andersson and Karin Jacobsdotter, but I checked the appeals court that covers the Ljusnarsberg area. I found no record of Thomas or Karin in these records. I also searched the estate inventories of Lindesberg for Karin Thomasdotter, Susanna Hansdotter, Lars Ljung, and Pehr Pehrsson but found only Lars Ljung.8 Lars is shown leaving a widow named Greta, but no children. The Lindesberg household examinations states that Lars died March 27, 1797 and Greta Pehrsdotter died in 1799.9 His death record indicates that Lars was born in 1725 in Ramsberg and was married first to Susanna Pehrsdotter of Ramsberg and second to widow Greta Pehrsdotter of Ryda.10

In an effort to learn more about Karin Thomasdotter's possible movements, I searched the Fellingsbro household examination of 1746 to 1755 for Karin and Susanna and any of the children of Thomas Andersson and Karin Jacobsdotter. I found a Carin Thomasdotter who was born in 1691 and lived in Nederby, but she was the widow of Olof Nilsson.11

I also searched the Ljusnarsberg marriages and deaths for Thomas Andersson's children, hoping that if I could track their movements, I could possibly locate Karin, as well. Anders Tomson married Margeta Persdotter in 1716.12 Erich Tomson married Elisabet Persdotter in 1724. I found two Johan Tomsons, one in Naset in 1744 and one in Candla in 1748. Household examinations show that the Jons from Candla was born in 1715 and the Johan from Naset was born in 1716, both too late to match the son of Thomas Andersson who was born in 1693.13

Thomas Andersson's son Anders that was born in 1690 died in Nybygge in 1691.14 I also found the 1689 death of a three week old daughter named Anna who is listed as a child of Tomes Anders of Ne. This should be researched further in birth records to determine if it matches the Thomas Andersson family of Nybygge.

Thomas Andersson's son Erich had children Petter, Karin, and Johan, all born in Nybygge.15 Erich died April 30, 1732 in Nybygge, and his widow remarried to Erich Larson.16 Thomas Andersson's son Anders had a daughter named Susanna born in Nybygge in 1717, but no further children have been found for Anders and he disappears from the Ljusnarsberg household examinations.17 He likely left the parish, but without moving records it will take a bit to find where he went.

The best part about searching for the children of Erich and Anders is that I stumbled across an unlabeled record of illegitimate births for Ljusnarsberg. In these births I found three children of Karin Thomasdotter of Nybygge: Karin, born in 1728 with the father shown as Petter Simonson; Susanna, born in 1734 with the father shown as Hans Marinson of Ramsberg; and Anna, born in 1741 with the father shown as Jan Janson.18 With this we not only have proof of Susanna's birth and her father's name, but we also know that Karin was the daughter of Karin Jacobsdotter and Thomas Andersson, so all of the research put into this family was useful. We can now try to find the parents of Karin Jacobsdotter and Thomas Andersson, but we can also look for Hans Marinson of Ramsberg. You may also want to look for the other two children of Karin Thomasdotter in Ljusnarsberg marriage and death records.

Sincerely,

Susan Glenn, AG
