FEBRUARY 1993 NEWSLETTER
We have had a very good month and accomplished a lot of research during the month of January and the latter part of December. Tedi Jeen and I were able to spend many hours researching in our FHL in Afton. We were able to put together a large genealogy on the Hampshire County, West Virginia BRILL families. All of these Brills are descendants of our grandfather, Martin BRILL.
RESEARCH REPORT ON MICHAEL MAURER (ca. 1710-1768) Who is the Father of Andrew MOWER (1752-1813) Tedi Jeen and I are spending evenings studying the ship immigration lists and believe we have identified two ships arriving in 1738 who may have carried our Michael MAURER.
On 9 Sep 1738 the ship, Glasgow, arrived in Philadelphia with 349 "Palatines" on board. Listed was Michal MAURER age 24.
On 9 Nov 1738 the ship, Charming Nancy, arrived with more Palatines on board. A Johan Michael MAURER age 18 and a Hans Philip MAURER age 32 were on board. Since in my records I have never run across a Hans Philip MAURER, I am inclined to think ours was on the Glasgow, but that is not proved. (Andrew MOWER named his oldest son, Johann Michael MAURER) We have been studying the immigration of individuals who witnessed the christenings of Michael MAURER's children. Maria Catarina MAURER, christened in the Falkner Swamp Lutheran Church in New Hanover, Montgomery, Pa on 2 Jun 1745, daughter of Michael and Anna Elisabeth MAURER. Witness to the christening is Bernhard RENN and wife. We have identified Bernhard RENN who immigrated on the ship, Thistle of Glasgow on 29 Aug 1730. The ship carried Palatines.
Maria Elizabeth MAURER christened on 27 Mar 1748 in the same church, daughter of Michael and Anna Elisabeth MAURER. Witness was Martin KALB and wife. We have identified Martin CALB as immigrating to America on 4 Sep 1728 on the ship, Albany. Families on the ship were listed as Palatines.
Anna Margaret MAURER (married Christopher BRILL) was christened on 19 Jan 1751 in the Augustus Evangelical Lutheran Church in Trappe Twp., Montgomery Co., Pa. Witness was Philip KRESLER's wife, Anna Maria. We have identified Philip KRESLER age 20, who immigrated on the 11 Oct 1732 on the ship, Pleasant. Listed on this ship were 42 Palatine families.
Andrew MAURER was christened 23 Apr 1753 in the Trinity Union Lutheran Union Church, in Springfield Twp., Bucks Co., Pa the son of Michael and Anna Elisabeth MAURER. Witness to the christening was Andrew KALB. We have located a record from the Mennonite Historical Society that lists an Andrew KALB (KOLB) the son of Martin KALB (KOLB). If we can identify where any of these individuals came from in Germany, then we have a good clue where to look for our Michael. We are in the process of searching published records which may lead to the European origins of any of these witnesses. An obvious clue to these individuals is that all are listed as Palatines--meaning they come from the area of Germany located around the Rhine River just south of Duesseldorf and running south to the Zweibruecken area, where we have just researched many hundreds of MAURERs last year.
Cousins Who Served in the Civil War As I research our cousins during the last couple of years I have run across various information that many served in the Civil War--on both sides of that conflict. Here for your enjoyment is a list of those identified so far that were enlisted in that great war. If someone out there would like to take a little time and write the National Archives, they will provide you with a copy of the war records they have for that individual. It costs a minimal charge for each person, but would be most interesting to have. It may yield genealogical data also. If someone is interested in doing this, please let me know and I can provide you with request forms, addresses, etc.

Next month we will be trimming our mailing list, so if you want to remain on the list please advise. If you don't hear from us next month, you'll know why. I am expecting a report from Jim PETTY soon on the GEISSINGER status. Hope to report soon on whether or not we hired Dr. WOLLMERSHAEUSER to work for us on that line. Lots of progress on the Elizabeth HALL line too, thanks to Jack and Mary Rasmussen and Ruth Brinkerhof. I'll report that later.
