Horace Mower1924 ~ 2005Horace Mower, 80 passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2005 in Pleasant Grove, Utah following a year long battle with bladder cancer. He was born July 1, 1924 in Roosevelt, Utah, a son of Jesse Lee and Emily Evelyn Farr Mower. He was the sixth of their seven children. Horace moved to Taylor, Weber County, when he was two years old. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Taylor/West Weber area. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Electrician.s Mate, Second Class. After returning home he attended Weber State College. He married Wanda Jennie Sharp in June of 1947. They divorced after many years of marriage. He married Venice G. Edmunds in 1993, and they also later divorced. Horace was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was active in the Roy 2nd and Clinton 15th Wards. He began a career as an electrician at the Naval Depot in Clearfield. He later transferred to Hill Air Force Base and worked in various positions. He retired in 1979 with 35 years of combined military/civic service. Horace enjoyed water skiing, camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening. His homegrown popcorn was relished by family and friends. Surviving are his sons, Bruce K. (JoAnn) Mower, Florence, OR; Monte J. (Cynthia) Mower, Pleasant Grove; four grandchildren, Michelle, (Shawn) Hunter, Corvallis, OR; Diane Mower, Honolulu, HI; Tara Mower and Branden H. Hansen both of Sandy, UT; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Kaye F. Mower, Morton, Sherwood, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Ruth Mower, LaPrele Hoffman and Francise Mower, and his brothers, Dale Lorin and LeeRoy F. Mower. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at the Clinton 25th Ward Chapel, 2841 West 1300 North. Friends may call at Lindquist.s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, West Weber-Taylor Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. |
