"There is no documentary evidence to show when the Lutheran and Reformed congregations at Nockamixon were first established or when places of worship were first erected, or when burying grounds were first laid out.
There is some tradition to show that the Lutheran congregation may have been organized as early as 1755, but it was not until August 20, 1761 that a plot of land...was purchased from Michael Messer. This tract was across the valley, about half-a-mile east of the present Union Church, on both sides of the public road leading from Ferndale to Erwinna.
The site of the church is now occupied by the 'Central Hill' school house. All traces of graves are entirely obliterated.
During those early days there were several private burying-grounds in that neighborhood. One of these is on the farm of Michael Shick, about half-a-mile to the northwest from the present church; there are too many graves there to suggest a private family plot. None of the names on the red sandstone markers are legible, but the dates 1734-1746-1764- and 1815 are decipherable. These are probably the dates of death...The statement is frequently made that the Nockamixon Churches were the outgrowth of the Springfield Union Church, and no doubt many of the early burials were at that place.
The Reformed congregation was doubtless established about the same time as that of the Lutherans, probably a little later. At that time this denomination was referred to as 'The German Presbyterian'...the minutes of Coetus (Synod) refer to the Nockamixon church in 1773, and arrange to send it a preacher, it is probable that the congregation was established about 10 years earlier. The earliest record of land purchased was in 1773 when a Mr. Shoup conveyed half-an-acre to that congregation...What is known as the 'Old Cemetery', lying east of the present union church contains many graves with red sandstone markers, some of these contain initials, some dates an initials, and some contain names and dates. There is certainly one and possibly two burials as early as 1768 and one dated 1771, indicating that there were burials there before the conveyence of Mr. Shoup in 1773.

P. 313 "About 1740, some Germans settled in the swamp region of Nockamixon township, and some few also located in the lowlands. From 1740 to 1750 quite a number of Germans seem to have settled over the hill, in the neighborhood of Center Hill school house....There is no record of any Church services in these 20 years, between 1740 and 1760. If these people attended any Lutheran church it must have been some other one at a great distance, as Old Williams or Easton to the north, or Tohickon to the west. "

The first communion of the church was in Oct 1766. Martin Briel and wife Anna Maria, Michael Maurer and wife Elizabeth, and John Henrich and Margaret Maurer attended. The date could be 21 Dec. 1766.
